What are nic salts?

The term “Nic Salts” has become one of the most common in the vaping industry thanks to their incredible success. But why? Nicotine Salts are different to normal “Freebase” Nicotine in that they have the addition of an Acid to reduce to Alkalinity (Ph). This reduction in Ph reduces the “harshness” often associated with freebase nicotine, making them vape more smoothly and produce less of a throat hit. You may have heard of Nicotine Benzoate or Nicotine Salicylate, with Benzoate and Salicylate denoting the type of acid used in the Nicotine. Yes, there are a number of different types out there but they essentially do the same thing.

Nic Salts refers to 10ml bottles of flavoured E Liquid in which the Nicotine used is a salt variant, normally Benzoate or Salicylate. Salt nicotine is actually absorbed more quickly into the bloodstream than Freebase, and since it’s smoother, it’s perfectly suited to lower power devices in higher strengths. Most people who smoke and want to transition to vaping tend to opt for pod kits due to their compact form and simplicity. Since Pod Kits like the Argus Z do not supply high power like Sub-Ohm kits, the nicotine strength needs to be increased.

Freebase Nicotine in anything over 3mg tends to produce a noticeable throat hit, so imagine how strong 20mg freebase would be. And this is where Nic Salts have come into their own – providing a strong yet smooth nicotine hit in high strength for pod kits.
